Antifoulant Products


Besides dissolved salt that can form scales, there is organic and biological material that can foul membranes. Colloids, silt, other fine particulates also can act as foulants. These materials can be removed by membrane cleaning. However, some feed waters contain such a large amount of this type of foulant that the system needs to be cleaned far too frequently. That is when antifoulants such as Protec RO and Protec RO C can make a difference.

Protec RO and Protec RO C act toward organic material and colloids, like silt, in the same fashion as antiscalants act toward inorganics that can form scale. They combine with the foulant before it enters the membrane surface and prevent it from attaching to the membrane element interior.

Protec RO

Protec RO is effective antifoulant for when the feed water contains colloidal particles and organic material. This type of foulant is very common in surface waters such a ponds, and rivers where decayed organic material and microorganisms can be found in high concentration.

Protec RO is also effective in preventing silt from fouling desalination and brackish water membrane systems.

Protec RO C

Protec RO C is an anticoagulant and antifoulant effective in preventing fouling by silt, organics, colloids, and fine particles. Unlike some other products Protec RO C will not flock with residual coagulants, iron, or aluminum rich silica.

Protec RO C is especially effective for industrial and municipal wastewaters. It prevents the coagulation and fouling by colloidal organic matter which includes humic acid, lignin, tannin, microorganisms, polysaccharides, lipids, proteins, cellular debris, and organic polymers from water treatment and inorganic colloidal including silica, clay, silt, sulfur, and various microcrystalline precipitates.
